The 2016 Lincoln Continental is one of those legendary cars which has a 50/50 chance of going into production. Firstly, the people from Lincoln said that the car is going to be released in 2015 but they actually went forward and delayed the production until the late 2015 or early 2016 in order to solve some issues that could impact the performance of the new Continental.

Luckily though, they also promised that the car will be launched by the start of 2016 in a greater form than ever before. It is going to be based on a new Ford platform with new engines, a brand new interior that is going to compete with the best out there and an exterior that should make you say wow when you see it. Price for this new model hasn’t been set but Lincoln is expecting to sell the car between 70 to 80 thousand dollars for the base model and up to 100 thousand dollars for a fully equipped one, meaning it will be the most expensive Lincoln ever!
Engine of 2016 Lincoln Continental
While the 5.8 liter V12 that was planned for the concept car has been dropped, Lincoln will try to impress its customers with a new powerplant which will consist out of a 2.7 or 3.5 liter EcoBoost. Any of these two engines should be good for more than 370 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque which would make it almost as powerful as its competitors without using much fuel. These two engines would also allow the Continental to have a bigger cabin because they are much smaller than their V8 counterparts.
The transmission that would go with such an engine would be an 8 or 9 speed automatic gearbox that would be developed from scratch by Lincoln in order to meet the specs of a luxury car. This transmission would then be coupled to the rear wheels. An all wheel drive system might also be available at a latter date.
2016 Lincoln Continental interior would be upmarket to say the least. There would be chair like seats with multiple electric controls, ventilation and heating in them, satellite navigation, a premium audio system as well as privacy glass as standard. Options should include a massive sunroof, electric doors that would close at a push of a button and even a reclining rear bench.
The exterior of the 2016 Lincoln Continental on the other hand would impress by its simple design. The car will take a boxy appearance rather than the round style of current cars which would make it quite unique. The front and rear lights will get LED as standard while the wheels will most likely be 20 inches even on the base model. The exhaust system will be concealed in order to keep its clean look while the doors will probably use a suicide pattern.
