Unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show the 2016 Ford GT Concept 350R promises better aerodynamics, better engine technologies and innovative lightweighting and range of other improvements on the 2015 version of the Ford GT 350. The performance and handling of the car is also optimized for the better.
Engine and Transmission
With Ford’s EcoBoost technology and a naturally aspirated flat-crank 5.2-liter V8 engine, the 2016 Ford GT 350R makes no compromise on power, which delivers over 500 horsepower and 400 pound-foot of torque. An air-to-oil engine cooler and a standard cooler help maintain the engine temperatures. Lightweight towerbrace, suspension components such as the MagneRide suspension teamed with revised spring rates and anti-roll bars, 395 mm front and 380 mm rear brake rotors and Brembo calipers are other notable feature of the GT 530R. It comes equipped with Tremec 3160 6-speed transmission which makes shifting very easy.
The tweaks in the aerodynamics of the car along with the presence of a huge carbon fiber rear wing, which moves the center of pressure rearward and improves the balance between downforce and lift, is sure raise the car’s performance standards and speed. Revisions to the front splitter, improved underbody belly pans, turbulence-reducing fender vents and wheel air curtains which increases the downforce and improves the aerodynamic quotient.
Light-weighting in pursuit of Improved Performance Lightweight carbon fiber wheels shed about 13 pounds of weight from its previous version. The wheels have passed the same durability standards and are reportedly more robust than the aluminium ones. They measure 19×11 inches for front wheels and 19×11.5 inches for the rear ones. The resonators were also removed from the exhaust system in the 2016 Ford GT Concept model that adds to make the car lighter. With 2016 GT 350R you get no stereo, no rear seats, no trunk upholstery, no air-conditioning, no backup camera, and no spare tire to make the car as lightweight as possible. Although, an optional electronic package provides dual-zone air-conditioning, touch screen navigation and seven-speaker audio system, but that only adds on to weight of the car.
2016 Ford GT Concept Design
The aerodynamic design has been improved, the head lamps have gone an inch lower, larger front splitters are added, and the rear wing in made bigger in size. But the most striking design tweak in the GT 350R is the red-painted brake calipers which adds a racy-vibe to the machine. There are pinches of red seen on the edges of the pin stripes, on the D-shaped steering wheel and even on the GT 350R badging.
The 2016 Ford GT concept – Detroit Motor Show was an instant hit with fast car lovers. Slated to be released in late 2015 in the US and Canada, the GT350R is most awaited Mustang from the Ford camp.
